2002 Edwards AFB Open House and Air Show
[Source: Mark Zurovski; SoCalMilCom]

EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, California – The 2002 Open House and Air Show at Edwards is scheduled for Oct. 26 with the gates opening at 7 a.m. and the flying tentatively set to begin at 9 a.m. and the event closing at 4:30 p.m. There is no admission or parking fee. This event showcases the aircraft systems and capabilities of the Air Force Flight Test Center, NASA Dryden Flight Research Center, the Air Force Research Laboratory Propulsion Directorate, Marine Aircraft Group 46 and other local and visiting units.

More info at: http://www.edwards.af.mil/oh_2002/

FRS Radio Channels
The Family Radio Service (FRS) channels 11 and 7 will be used at the event to talk with and meet up with other scanner hobbiest. Leave your privacy codes turned off, or set to zero, whichever the case may be with your radio. The privacy codes between different brands of radio don't work together. When you're on the field, just give a shout out.

Air Show Frequencies
Mark was kind enough to compile the following radio frequencies for this event.

The published tower and ground freqs are active during the shows. None of the rest of these are set in stone but were used during the 2000 show. Remember, none of these are guaranteed, except the published tower, ground and approach frequencies. The rest are, um, up in the air.

120.70 Airboss (aka 'Tower')
122.85 Show discrete
123.15 Performer discrete
132.75 SPORT

308.70 Airboss (aka SOF)
354.10 Show discrete
300.80 Show discrete
354.40 Gas (Raptor demo tanked here)
371.10 NASA asking for numerous radio checks. Nobody answered.

If you look around the Edwards airshow site, a 'Marine Helicopter Demo' is scheduled. The Moonlighters and Roadhogs are the two Marine Reserve helo squadrons based at Edwards and here is part of a card I found at the 2000 show.

140.30 ROAD HOG TAC 1 140.3
307.52 ROAD HOG TAC 2 (BASE)
363.45 ROAD HOG TAC 3 363.45
34.55 ROAD HOG FM 34.55
138.62 MOONLIGHT TAC 1 138.625
293.35 MOONLIGHT TAC 2 (BASE) 293.35
326.42 MOONLIGHT TAC 3 326.425
30.85 MOONLIGHT FM 30.85

If the SEALS jump, they have used 407.5 as their jump frequency for quite awhile now, 123.475 has been used by the A-10 West Demo Team this year, along with the Golden Knights, all of which are on the schedule.

The SEALS jump team have also been known to use 270.0 with "High Bird" the call sign of their aircraft.

Trunked Systems
The 'system' numbering is just my way of keeping track of them, all three systems were parallel, same conversation, same id on all three 'systems', simultaneously. As of last June. Frequencies in bold type are control channels.

[Source: Freq Of Nature]

UPDATE - Photos of the Los Angeles Fire Department's Fireboat 2 "Ralph J. Scott" have been posted to Freq Of Nature. The photos were taken at Sunday's event celebrating's the boat's 77th year in service. Early next year the boat will be replaced by a new boat. In the mean time the search is on for a suitable place to keep the "Ralph J. Scott" on display to the public.
