Operation Homeward Bound begins Friday [Source: Ventura County Star] The first step in the three-phase project to bring former president Ronald Reagan's Air Force One -- tail No. 27000 -- to Simi Valley will begin on Friday. Dignitaries from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and The Boeing Co., which are partnering in the project, will be on hand at San Bernardino International Airport, where the plane is housed, to launch the disassembly of the jet. Operation Homeward Bound is a joint venture between the library and Boeing. After the aircraft is disassembled, it will be transported to the Reagan Library, where it will be reassembled and placed into the new Air Force One Pavilion being built at the site. |
