Interagency Communications Interoperability System [Source: Freq Of Nature; The City of Glendale] While driving through a canyon on the way to the mountain top transmitter site I had the opportunity to test out the new system. The audio was so clear that I had to ask if we were in analog or digital mode. I had plugged the Freq Of Nature website on the air but since we were in digital-encrypted mode the only one who heard it was the fellow on the other end of the radio. Before I receive a blizzard of whining e-mails, I was assured that most of the talk groups will not be encrypted and even the dispatch talk groups will, at least initially, remain in analog mode. The FON Glendale and Verdugo Fire pages have also been updated with some cool images and information. Links of Interest FON Glendale Radio Tour Photos FON Glendale Page FON Verdugo Fire Page

Ventura County Fire Department Gets New Engines [Source: Ventura County Fire Department] Ventura County Fire will see 12 new fire vehicles come into service by year-end. The new vehicles (Type III engines and Crash/Rescue truck) are an integral part of the equipment used by the county's fire department. The 11 Type III engines and Crash/Rescue truck will replace aging vehicles now in service. The Crash/Rescue truck is primarily used for flammable liquid fires, such as airport or hydrocarbon fuel fires. This vehicle is fully operative while mobile. The new Crash truck will reside at station 50 (Camarillo Airport). Type III (model 15) engines are smaller more easily maneuvered vehicles. They are used for wildland incidents where a smaller vehicle is needed. The new "hi-tech" looking engines will accommodate inside seating for a crew of 4 and hold 500 gallons. They will be housed at various stations throughout the county.
