Interoperability Communications
Federal Government Spectrum Available for Public Safety


The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) has specified several Federal Government frequencies (See Law Enforcement and Incident Response Plan frequencies below) that can be used by non-Federal government public safety entities for communications involving coordination and cooperation with Federal Government agencies. Input frequencies and tones have been excluded from the frequency lists here because they are not needed for radio monitoring and could potentially jeopardize communications.

These frequencies are not used to meet the day-to-day communications needs of non-Federal government public safety entities. Due to previous frequency authorizations to Federal Government agencies, not all channels are available at all locations.

The rules governing the use of these frequencies (power, bandwidth, etc.) are set forth in Section 4.3.16 of the NTIA Manual (Manual of Regulations and Procedures for Federal Radio Frequency Management see NTIA's web page at www.ntia.doc.gov/osmhome/redbook/redbook.html).
