There
were several training exercises going on this day, one of which appeared
to be a search & rescue team practicing repelling.
The
Ventura County Fire Department Training Facility was a LOT larger than I
had thought it would be. It's actually a town complete with street names
and different types of structures.
Captain
Mike "Supreme Commander in Training" Milkovich demonstrating how
to use leavers and box cribbing to lift a heavy slab of concrete.
We
had lunch at the Way Point cafe at Camarillo Airport.
The
small of jet fuel and tri-tip BBQ .. yummy!
Here
we are working as a team to lift a cubic yard of concrete. (At 125lbs/sq
ft that's 3,375lbs)
My lovely wife
was a victim in our training exercise.
Disaster
city, USA.
We
noticed this vehicle sitting outside the VCFD HQ building and had to stop
to take this photo. Budget cutbacks?
Here's
VCSO's new Copter 8. This copter was recently first on scene of a military
jet crash at the Point Mugu air show. It's well equipped, but I'll save
those details for when I create a page devoted to these copters.
After
our CERT training we noticed that people (I think some training class)
were taking turns taking short rides in Copter 6 so we stopped to take a
few photos before journeying back to Simi Valley.
It's
amazing how these pilots are able to land these huge aircraft so precisely.
Here's
copter 4, 8 and 7. In the background is the old copter 3 (or the tail from
copter 3 anyway).
Copter
5 was one of my favorite Ventura copters, it's now mothballed, hanging
from the rafters like a bat that will never see flight again.
Of
course I couldn't get away without snapping a photo of the radio
antenna's.
