| Aircraft Tractor
This little Tonka Toy is used to manuver the Ventura County Sheriff's helicopters around the ground. The pilot will skillfully land the helicopter on a small trailer that is just large enough for the skids. This tractor will then hook up to the trailer to move the aircraft. |

During the air show there was a may day called out by one of the pilots performing in the show. We happened to be near the Ventura County hangar so we quickly made our way over to one of the pilots and informed him of the situation. The pilot in distress made a short approach flying directly over us as he coaxed his injured aircraft to the landing strip. My wife and I as well as the Ventura County Pilots held their breaths and willed the aircraft to safety. Soon after the aircraft landed safely the familiar tones from the Ventura County Fire Dispatch echoed in stereo as we listened to several units including Copter 8 being dispatched to a 'crashed aircraft'. The pilot of Copter 8 radioed in that the aircraft was safely on the ground and no further assistance was needed. |

Aerial Acrobatics
This experimental rear prop aircraft was one of the performers going through the paces of loops and barrel rolls. There wasn't a cloud in the sky with the exception of smoke trails from aircraft but just a few miles away Oxnard airport was closed to VFR (Visual Flight Rules) aircraft because of clouds over the airport. |

during WWII. The C-46 made history in WWII by flying vital supplies over the
Himalayan mountains from India-Burma into China, this feat was know as 'Flying

| Tracy at the air show | VC-131D Convair "Samaritan"
"The U.S. Air Force used the C-131 for several purposes: Executive transport,
hospital transport, navigator trainging (T-29 version) and general cargo. This
particular aircraft served with the regular air force and the air national guard
as an executive transport from 1954 to 1985. The interior of this VC-131D
contains an example of each of the abovementioned uses. |

| Mayday mayday mayday
This aircraft was one of many in the air over Camarillo at the time when he called in a 'Mayday' because his engine was malfunctioning. Tracy and Karen heard this over the radio scanner and quickly approched the pilots at the Copter 9 that was on display at the air show. Tracy informed them that an aircraft had called in a may day. As we were listening to the situation unfold over the radio scanner one of the Ventura County pilots pointed out the aircraft that was in trouble. The aircraft made a short approch over the crowd to land his crippled aircraft. The Ventura County pilot that responded to the air show disaster at Point Mugu just a few months earlier was watching as the aircraft approached saying "Come on buddy, you can make it, come on buddy." We certainly didn't need to see a replay of the disaster at the Point Mugu air show here. The pilot made a successful landing and all was well...with the possible exception of the aircraft which was reported to have something leaking from it, possibly steam from a liquid leak. |
