place at the Redondo Beach Civic Center at 401 Diamond Street. There was a
lot of activities for the kids and plenty of friendly public safety folks
demonstrating equipment specific to their duties. Oh, there were free hot
dogs and soda pop too.

Crisis
Negotiation Team
"Throw Phone" The Crisis Negotiation Team had a throw phone on
display. The phone looks like a typical AT&T Princess telephone mounted in a
heavy duty plastic case.

Crisis
Negotiation Team
"Throw Phone" The throw phone end of the cable is connected to
about 50' of cable that is typical of a telephone booth cable. The rest of
the cable appears to be several hundred feet of standard flat telephone
cable.

Special
Weapons And Tactics The SWAT team had several of their weapons
and other assorted tools on display.

HK MP5
One of the SWAT team members demonstrates their HK MP5 submachine guns to
Karen. These compact, highly accurate weapons are only sold to military and
law enforcement. It's feared by bad guys world round. Karen commented that
some of the people attending the event might be bad guys checking out what
they are up against...a lot, that's what they are up against.

HK MP5
Tracy is enjoying this just a little too much. The sight is not a laser like
you see in movies but an image similar to the heads up display on fighter
jets. There are no little red dots bouncing off walls to give the location
of the officers away to the bad guys. The officer puts the dot within the
circle where he wants the bullet to go and presses the trigger.

Jail cell
Notice the short telephone cable. Folks who end up in the cells don't
usually want to be there and suicide may cross their mind as a way out. It
is difficult to hang yourself with a 1' telephone cord.

Dispatch center
The station at the back right (center of this photo) is where 911 and other
emergency calls are received. This operator will enter the details of the
call which will show up at the top of the police and fire dispatcher
screens. The station at the left is dispatching fire while the station at
the right is dispatching police. Once a call is dispatched it will drop to
the bottom half of the screen showing it as being in progress.

EOCC
This is the Emergency Operations Communication Center. A "war room" map sits
on the conference table as well as other city maps along the back wall.
