| Both the Uniden BC250D and the Radio Shack
Pro-96 look like fine radio scanners with each having their strengths and
weaknesses. Since each radio monitoring hobbyists interests are different
I've created this page to make it a bit easier to see which radio scanner
pushes your hot buttons. Uniden has released a new version of the BC250D called the BC296D. The BC296D supports P25 9600 bps Control Channels and is sold with the P25 Digital Reception card which is optional on the BC250D. |

| Priority/Priority Plus Scan |
| You can assign one priority channel in each bank. Assigning a priority channel allows you to keep track of activity on your most important channel(s) while monitoring other channels for transmissions. You can also assign Trunking priority Talkgroups. Priority Plus Scan allows you to scan only priority channels. |

| Allows your scanner to skip unwanted data transmissions and reduces birdies. |

| Go directly to any channel without enter the Menu mode. |
| Computer Control |
| With optional third party software you can program and/or control the radio scanner. A detailed list of software commands are available on the Freq Of Nature website for those who wish to write their own software for this and other Uniden radio scanners. The Radio Shack Pro-96 is computer programmable which should not be confused with computer controllable. Software can not control the functions of the Pro-96 it can only read and write memory. |
