| On
January 31, 2000, at about 1620 PST, Alaska Airlines flight 261, N963AS,
a Boeing (McDonnell Douglas) MD-83 on a scheduled international
passenger flight from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to San Francisco,
California, crashed into the Pacific Ocean near Point Mugu, California.
There were 2 pilots, 3 flight attendants, 80 adult and child passengers,
and 3 infant passengers aboard. The U.S. Coast Guard conducted a search
and rescue mission for 44 hours. The search and rescue mission was
called off at 1200 PST on February 2, 2000, and search and recovery
efforts began. There were no survivors. |
